As news reports emerge with details that a section of Metro Rail Phase II will run above an elevated road, residents along the busy OMR road are celebrating the good times ahead. The Metro elevated highway will be a four-lane one, covering a distance of 17.2 km from Taramani to Siruseri.
Already, the six-lane IT Expressway is the arterial nerve centre connecting the southern suburbs to the city’s institutional areas. Now, with the new announcement, the Expressway is all set to turn futuristic and become one of the most happening places in the city.
As the first phase of the elevated road will run from the SRP Tools junction to Siruseri, residents in these suburbs are overjoyed at the prospect of connectivity, convenience, and comfort that this project shall bring along with appreciating property prices. The section up to Siruseri is a hub of corporate commercial activities with banks, IT and ITES companies, BPOs, and MNCs setting up base here. Every day about 1.3 lakhs vehicles ply on the Expressway, making it one of the busiest sectors in the city.

IT Corridor, which is also called Old Mahabalipuram Road or Rajiv Gandhi Salai, is a 45 km stretch that connects Chennai to the extreme southern suburbs, including Siruseri, before joining Mahabalipuram. The stretch begins with the institutional area, which is home prominent Government Institutions and technical / educational institutions, and continues to house the best of world-class corporates. The entire stretch is dotted with corporates and IT parks, the largest of them being at Siruseri, SIPCOT IT Park spread across 2000 acres.
